Knutsen OAS sells its last pre-2000-built chemical tanker
Norway's Knutsen OAS Shipping has offloaded its only chemical tanker built before 2000, company director Jon Einar Dalsvaag confirmed.

US brokers said the Haugesund-based company has sold the 19,100-dwt Kristin Knutsen (built 1998) to Seacon Shipping of China for $6.2m. The tanker has been on charter to Jo Tankers of Bergen and has been considered a sale or conversion candidate for a number of years.
The Kristin Knutsen, which just passed special survey, was ordered for $38m in 1996.
The sale leaves the Norwegian shipowner with four 16,600-dwt chemical tankers that are all on time charters to oil companies. They were all built at Jiangnan Shipyard in 2009 and 2010.
Three of them are on charter to Total and the fourth, the Birgit Knutsen (built 2010), is with Neste of Finland. The charters all last a year, with options to extend.
The chemical tanker business is not our core business, but as long as the tankers are covered by oil company business, we will keep them, Dalsvaag said.
